Initial Requirements

  • Are you a resident of Cedar, Johnson, or Iowa County?
  • Are you a legal resident of the United States of America?
  • Are you willing to put in “sweat equity,” or 250 volunteer hours per adult?
    Volunteer hours are completed by building Habitat homes, helping in our office or ReStore, or helping with special events.
  • Are you able to pay a long-term mortgage?
  • Do you have current housing that is inadequate?
    Is it unsafe, unhealthy, overcrowded, or you are paying too much in rent and/or utility bills? We also take into account the number, ages, and sex of your children compared to the number of bedrooms in your present home.
