An Infrared Scan of a Home

The Weatherization Innovation Pilot Program (WIPP) works towards new models for energy auditing and retrofitting houses to be more energy efficient.

As a sub-grantee of WIPP, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity will help 60 families stay warm and healthy in southeastern Iowa over the next 1-2 years thanks to a grant from the Department of Energy.

Applicants may be eligible for a "whole-home" energy audit, a refrigerator replacement for units over 10 years old, a check of furnace and water heater, and a low-or-no-cost insulation upgrade.

To qualify, applicants must own their home and make less than the threshold listed below for the number of occupants:

Size of Family Income Limit
1 22340
2 30260
3 38180
4 46100
5 54020
6 61940
7 69860
8 77780
Each +1 7920

For each approved homeowner application, an initial audit by BPI-certified energy auditors will diagnose the home’s performance, and then volunteer weatherization technicians will install measures to improve health, safety, and energy efficiency. A final inspection will verify that the measures work and are correctly installed.
